PGCE Secondary History: Subject Knowledge Audit

Subject knowledge development is part of your professional responsibility as a teacher. It is vital to review your subject knowledge on a regular basis to identify any areas for development.

As a first step towards your PGCE course a subject knowledge audit needs to be completed. The purpose of the audit is for you to identify your subject knowledge strengths and weaknesses. It will be reviewed at the beginning of the course and will help you to draw up a subject knowledge action plan with targets for your on-going subject knowledge enhancement.

The vastness of history subject content would make it impossible in the PGCE year for you to have covered everything you will be asked to teach. Good subject knowledge however is a vital element in planning and teaching rigorous, challenging and engaging history lessons.
